Then they bought ‘wilderness’ retreats in Idaho, first in Lohman then in Garden Valley where they developed many more friendships. While at HP, Fred developed many close friendships including Alan Raney and Randy Stepon, both of whom provided tremendous help and comfort to Fred and Wanda in Fred’s final weeks.įred and Wanda loved camping in their tiny trailer and fishing in many parts of Idaho. Those qualities earned him the responsibility for budgeting and tracking expenses for Research and Development and 2 other teams. Fred was noted for being extremely detail oriented and very organized. Fred’s unit was noted as having he best esprit de corps at Hewlett Packard – he truly cared about the people he worked with and helped with the personal successes of several. Fred was also noted for his great sense of humor and as a humble person who credited the people he worked with for the unit’s successes. His units were leaders in technology and they developed several award-winning designs. He advanced into management leading various teams responsible for Printed Circuit Design, Graphic Design, and Lab Services. He worked for IBM, Texas Instruments, and Xerox.įred was recruited by Hewlett Packard, in Boise, Idaho in the late 1970s. Fred diverted his drafting skills to electronics, laying out circuit designs for greatest efficiency. Later he became a job shopper and his employment in the aircraft industry took him to Montreal, Canada Atlanta, Georgia and Dallas, Texas. Wanda was from Arkansas and would become Fred’s wife – he just didn’t know it at the time they were married Thanksgiving Day, 1967, in Grand Prairie, Texas.įred was trained as a draftsman at a technical school in Seattle and was hired by Boeing in Seattle. ![]() While in Bremerton, he met Wanda Jean Bell, who was visiting a sister across the street from the Larson household. When Fred returned to Bremerton, he bought the first of the 5 Corvettes he was to enjoy over the course of his lifetime. Fred served from 1961 to 1964 and spent 2 years at Fort Ord, California and a year in Korea. College in Bremerton before enlisting in the US Army. ![]() Fred’s early life was compromised by rheumatic fever.įred graduated from East Bremerton High School, class of 1961. He was raised in Bremerton, a task shared by his mother and grandparents, Raymond and Hazel Lougheed, while his father was deployed as a tank commander in Africa and Europe during WWII.
